ATK was up against defending champions Bengaluru FC in the second leg of the Hero Indian Super League (ISL) semi-final at the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan, Kolkata. Trailing 1-0 from the first leg, ATK needed to produce a turnaround in front of their home fans, to join Chennaiyin FC in the Hero ISL 2019-20 final.
As the ATK players got off the team bus and entered the stadium, they were given a rousing welcome by the Hero ISL Children’s League footballers. Former Indian cricket team captain, Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) president and ATK co-owner Sourav Ganguly was present to witness this entertaining contest. Ganguly clicked a selfie with the Hero ISL Children’s League footballers, with ATK players Ankit Mukherjee and Salam Ranjan Singh, also present.
The Kolkata-based outfit produced a memorable performance in front of over 50,000 people, as they comprehensively beat Bengaluru FC 3-1 (3-2 aggregate). Local boy Prabir Das, who is an inspiration for Hero ISL Children’s League footballers in West Bengal, was adjudged as the “Hero of the Match”.
What a night it turned out to be for the Hero ISL Children’s League footballers! A night in which the joy of the young footballers was doubled after witnessing their favourite team ATK reach the Hero ISL final, followed by meeting Bengal’s biggest sporting icon.
