Situated at the Eastern foothills of the Himalayas, Pasighat is the headquarters of East Siang district in Arunachal Pradesh. Despite interest in football, there had never been a grassroots football system in place in the city. However, the picture changed with the advent of the Hero ISL Children’s League in Pasighat.
The Hero ISL Children’s League got underway in Pasighat on December 12. It was an altogether new experience for the young footballers as they treated it like a football carnival, with competitive matches, quality playing time and a platform to showcase their skills.
An intense battle involved 14 teams, with Bakin’s Democrates A emerging as the champions, and Engo Takar Model School finishing as runners-up. On the final matchday, the curtains were brought down with an exhibition match between the coaches and the Under-12 footballers. After a pulsating 10-minute contest, the match ended in a 2-2 draw.
The Hero ISL Children’s League has been a big boost to the footballing fraternity of Pasighat. It is time for these children to step up and make a name for themselves in the near future.
