ATK welcomed Chennaiyin FC to the Vivekananda Yuba Bharati Krirangan for a pivotal Hero Indian Super League (ISL) encounter on February 16. The two most successful teams in Hero ISL history were facing off against each other for the second time this season.
For ATK, nothing less than a victory would be an acceptable result as they were desperate to book an AFC Champions League spot. On the other hand, Chennaiyin FC was in for a three-way tussle with Mumbai City FC and Odisha FC in the race for the semi-finals.
The Hero ISL Children’s League footballers lined up to give the ATK players a warm welcome when they got off the team bus and entered the stadium. The home side looked elated to receive such a warm ovation from the future generation footballers. The ATK and Chennaiyin FC players were escorted onto the pitch by the Children’s League footballers. During the half-time break, the children were involved in a 3 v 3 match in front of the spectators.
On the field, Chennaiyin outclassed ATK 3-1 to earn a priceless win and keep them in the hunt for the semi-finals. The Hero of the Match, Chennaiyin’s midfield lynchpin Edwin Sydney Vanspaul and the ISL Emerging Player of the Match, Jerry Lalrinzuala, clicked selfies with the Children’s League footballers.
The Hero ISL Children’s League footballers had a night to remember. Having witnessed some of the country’s best players in action, the bags of experience could now prove to be handy and motivate the children to deliver top notch performances in the upcoming Hero ISL Children’s League matches.
